Construction of Kholongo Multipurpose Dam (Water Supply and Irrigation) for Mponela Town
The project involves construction of a multipurpose dam, development of a water supply system, development of an irrigation system and development of fish farms. The Multi-Purpose Dam shall be a source of water for domestic and industrial consumption, irrigation, fish farming, tourist activities and as well as maintaining environmental flows. The areas that are earmarked to be supplied with potable water by the Dam construction include Mponela Town and other surrounding areas including Mtiti, Madisi, Kanyungu, Kawele, Chimungu, Ndiliro Trading Centres.
The purpose of the project is to increase access to potable water supply to over 153,000 people in Mponela town and surrounding areas, improve water reliability to 24 hours a day in Mponela town and surrounding areas, and Improve food security and community livelihood to 4,400 households around the project area through irrigation and fish farming.
